A great wide blue sky welcomed the first day of the new year - so we headed into the Queyras Park for a bit of skiing and a spot of lunch.....
At Abries there hadn't been quite as much snow as we thought there might have been - but plenty to ski on anyway. The new carpark was busy although the slopes were not. Up the chair lift and we discovered that everyone was sitting in the sun on the restaurant's fine new terrace. It's been widened by about half as much again - even so, every table was full.
A few runs later, with slightly aching legs we managed to get a table - trying to beat the imminent disappearance of the sun behind the mountains. Sadly, there wasn't much left in the way of food. John had the last lasagne and mine was only a plate of chips - tasty though.
After lunch we struggled to do more skiing. Food seems to take the energy out of the old legs. John went back down to the carpark on the chair. I did ski down but slowly! The carpark was well in the shade and hovering around freezing as we loaded up the skis.
It was a good start for 2012.
Happy New Year to you all. Here's to loads of great adventures to come..............

That sounds excellent, so now you just have to wait for everyone else to go back to work and you'll have the restaurant terrace to yourselves.
Have fun!
Spot on with that! Yet another advantage of being retired........
