Chlorine clouds at sunset........

Trundling the trolley across the car park at Tesco's yesterday afternoon, just as the sun was setting, some strange rainbow clouds caught my eye.

{Rainbow coloured clouds - pink, green and yellow}

Today in the local paper there was a similar picture - and a scientific explanation.....

These nacreous clouds are apparently caused by a build up of greenhouse gases in the troposphere, about 50 miles above the earth - more often seen in polar regions.  So although attractive to look at, they're not a good sign!

Global warming anyone...............?

I could tell you that it's methane gas mixing with ozone and producing chlorine - but I've no idea what that means - except it's not good! But it was pretty!

Aren't they wonderful? There have been lots of sitings in Aberdeenshire apparently. Lucky you.

Thanks for your comment - sorry about the original one which I deleted by mistake (doh!) I'm not sure having a hole in the Aberdeenshire ozone layer is a good thing though......!

What on earth are you doing up there to cause all this destruction Laura?
